Things we've done previously

The events on this page are intended to give an idea of the breadth
of social events arranged by NORC for members (and in some cases
non-members).

We really hope to keep our club interesting and enjoyable for
everybody with a love for horses, competing and non-competing

NORC Festive Hack

NORC festive hack was a huge success with lots of people having lots of fun.
More Pictures Now Online

We would like to thank Mr and Mrs Sancroft-Baker for allowing our club access to their beautiful farm and amazing hacking.

The winners of “Best Festive Horse and Rider” went to Vanessa Keene who had fairy lights in her horses mane, Sue Gibb for her clever use of holly all over her horse and Julie Varney for all out tinseltastic on her horse.

There were merry times after drinking hot mulled wine and food aplenty.

Once again we thank the host for the use of the barn with log burner and of course and big thank you to Mandy Madden for organising the day and giving the guided tour.

Well done Simone Bochen-Haack for decorating the barn and giving a warm festive feeling with food to feed an army!

Many thanks for a lovely Festive Hack.

Newbottle Fun Ride

Sunday 21st June 2015

A fun ride that is very well organised - Paramedic - Photographer - Hot food and drinks - fully stewarded and toilets.

What could be more glorious than to ride out on a beautiful June day across unspoilt countryside that you would not normally have access to? Plus the proceeds go to great charities!

The 6th Newbottle Fun Ride is in aid of the Air Ambulance and Brooke Animal Hospital by kind permission of the local landowners.

A 10 mile circuit ride through some beautiful landscape in Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire. The course takes you through the picturesque countryside surrounding the villages of Newbottle, Charlton and Hinton-in-the-Hedges. There will be a range of 30 optional cross country jumps with alternative routes for non jumping riders at every fence.

Full details are on the schedule (click here) or you could contact Mrs P. Cook or Tel: 01295 816966 for more information.

First start time 9:30 am Last start time 1:00 pm

Full details of the estate are here www.newbottleestate.com.

I have done this ride before and Belle and I really enjoyed it. The options of jumping or not meant it was suitable for different levels and age groups so I can really recommend it.

We now have four booked in (myself, Pippa, Claire and Nic) with a fifth
in the pipeline - a full group!

If anyone else wants to go please contact me, I suggest that you
with a friend or in a group as it is much more fun, then I will get you a

the test sheets.

This event will be in a 20 x 40 marked out arena.

This equates to a private half hour training session with Natalie,
so very good value for money.

Please get in touch with Kate Warner to book your place making
sure that you let her know the test you want to do.

Then complete a booking form and send your cheque to Kate.

Have a  great time!

Sue - you were brilliant!
NORC on BBC Radio Oxford

Sue was talking about NORC on the Kat Orman Radio Show.

Click here if you missed it.

NORC came over as a really friendly club laying on a broad range of
activities including training, competitions and social events.

It can't be easy knowing that you're talking to millions of listeners
but Sue, you did really well.

'by popular demand' we have arranged another
Lets Go Swimming (no cossie needed)
Sunday 7th June 2015

Horses are natural swimmers - no need to teach them to swim,
unlike us, they only need a little help with technique, don't we all!

We have organised a visit to take your best friend swimming at the
Arden Equine Pool in Claverdon, Warwickshire - have a look at their
website www.ardenequinepool.co.uk

The 140 foot pool is straight enabling your horse to swim with a
straight and even posture so muscles are worked evenly.

Rubber slip mats with gradual entry and exit ramps plus a three pump
filtration system keeps the water clean and clear.

Experienced handlers are on hand and use two lunge reins and walk
either side of the pool with your horse.

After swimming your horse is dried off in the solarium, not like the cold
swimming pool changing rooms that we know!

The solarium also increases your horses circulation.

This is not just for injured horses as all horses do enjoy and benefit
from this lovely experience.

Please contact Kate Warner to book your place.

The cost per horse is £27.50 which includes the Solarium.

To reserve your place please send Kate a cheque for £10 made out to
Arden Equine Pool (n.b. this is not refundable if your booking is
cancelled less than 48 hours before the event).

The balance to be paid on the day by cash or cheque made out to Arden Equine Pool.

If you and 3 mates want to book a session all together on one of the dates above let Kate know, otherwise just let Kate know you want to go, then she will confirm your time and who is in your group so you can arrange car sharing etc.

If you want to have lots of fun, improve on your riding skills, not get wet and have well behaved 15.2hh all ready for you to ride then carry on reading:

It can help anyone, the simulator gives the rider a chance to practice correcting wrong posture, or to try a different balance giving you confidence, as it removes the unpredictability of a live horse or pony.

Much can be learned from recording the performance and replaying it immediately on screen. The computer also relays your body position and how your body moves with the horse. If you are one sided or too heavy in the saddle the computer will highlight this on the screen.

The horse has six paces and is sensitive to the leg, hand and seat. The horse can help you in walk, trot and canter to advance movements such as half pass, flying changes and even piaffe.

It should be a fun hour with a group of four watching each other receive their instruction and all learning together.

Amanda Longland, Liz Osbourne and Kate went along together and just could not believe how great it was in helping your riding plus we had lots of fun we all had a great time.

This is a Quote from Liz
"Very revealing to see yourself analysed in fine detail on the mirror and by the computer hot spots. You really have to concentrate on control of posture and movement. The mechanical horse is much more comfortable than the real one ! Leaves a memorable impression which you try and re-call when riding at home. I recommend it."

and this is a Quote from Amanda
"I had a fascinating experience last year having a go on a mechanical horse. The big beast is saddled and bridled up and comes with an instructor and a screen showing how straight and even you are riding. I went as part of a group and this gave me the opportunity to see others dealing with their issues; this was as valuable as having a go myself. Having someone tell you how to change your position then be able to see how the change affects your weight distribution and balance was very informative. The mechanical horse had the full range of paces, and paces within paces, though I didn't see a rearing or bucking setting. What I found most useful was being straightened out ( several in our group were twisted in various ways ) and understanding what that felt like, when crooked felt like being straight and straight felt like being crooked. I would certainly like to go again."

Practical Horsemanship Demo with Grant Bazin
On Thursday 27th March
6:00 for 6:30 p.m start
to be held at Babington Dressage, Williamscott

Grant has been involved with horses all his life.

The methods he uses are those of non-violence, predominantly based on the work of legendary American Horse Trainer Monty Roberts.

Grant rode for Monty Roberts on his 2001 European tours. He worked closely with his ideas for many years and is now using his own twist on the methods Monty Roberts pioneered.

This will be a fun and educational evening, working in a live environment with problem horses.

For members to attend this demo, it is £5.00 and for non members £8.00. All you need is to bring a chair, wear warm clothes and then enjoy the evening. Please let Sue Gibb know if you want to come along.

There will be three horses worked on:

If any member has a problem horse they would like to bring along we have a space for one horse. Please contact Sue Gibb and tell her about the problem you have with your horse. If your horse is picked there will be a small charge for the horses fee.
